Gettin' Hooked up?

I said that I would blog about part of Cora's spring break last week but I ran out of time.  So I thought I would take a minute to sit down and listen to the rain and get my thoughts together.

This experience started simply enough.  Cora enjoys listening to the 2 Girls and a Guy morning show for the 20 minutes that we are in the car in the morning.  She got to meet Kelly, one of the girls, at the Aquarium but she missed meeting Tanya, the other girl, and Mike the Guy by a minute when they were at the Stingrays hockey game.

So I posted on their facebook page that Cora was bummed she missed meeting them and we hoped we would get the chance to meet them before we moved.  Tanya posted back and invited Cora to come in over spring break to check things out.

So last Thursday I took Cora to the station and she got to meet Tanya and Mike.  She also got to see SPCA Kay and play with the kitty she brought in.  Cora even wore her Justin Beiber shirt so Mike would say she had the Beiber fever.  We were there about an hour and left.....but Cora talked and talked about it!

In our house that is what we call getting hooked up.....and Cora even knows what that phrase means.  But I really question whether it really is getting hooked up?  There are many things that my daughter has gotten to do that someone would consider getting hooked up.....but I just think it is part of being a parent.  As a parent we are charged with raising our children to be well rounded.  Learning doesn't stop once our teachers put our children on the bus......learning should go on 24 hrs a day.....365 days a year.  And in our house....the best "hook ups" generally don't cost money or cost very little.  Here are a few...

Cora with Mike the Guy

Finally Getting to meet Tanya!

Great pic with Kelly!

At the Laundromat....weird I know but she had a great time!

A visit from two of her favorite stingray hockey players

Strawberry picking is the best experience ever!

sitting on the bench watching your favorite player warm up!

Going crabbin' with your uncle!

The best part of getting hooked up?  All I did was ask!  I asked if she could come to the radio station, I asked if those players could come to her class.....I asked if she could sit on the bench.  Opportunities are out there for our children....ask away!

Do you know who I am....Do you know how many hits I've had?

I said to Steve the other day that I haven't blogged in awhile.  His reponse was....I've noticed.  But I am not going to bore you with the day to day things that go on at our house.  When I blog it has to be good.  I don't know that this entry is really 'good' but it is definately a foreshadowing of things to come.

So I will first explain the title.  About a month ago Steve and I went to the Prince concert.  It was the most amazing concert I have ever been too.  So to get the crowd stirred up Prince would say "Do you know who I am......do you know how many hits I've had?"  and he said it several times throughout the concert.  But we now say it here at home as a joke. Well it is a joke when Steve and I say it....when someone else says it...not so much.

Ok....how does this apply to Cora?  Because Cora is very well aware of 'who she is'!  Every morning this week they get to wear a specific thing and they pay 50 cents and it goes to the American Red Cross.  Well today was Wacky Wednesday.  And I should preface by saying that Cora has already started to revolt against the clothes that I have been laying out for her to wear!  So I get her up this morning and I have stuff out for her to be "Wacky".  And she announces.....I am dressing like a teenager today and I am not wearing what you put out.  (Ummm.....do you know who I am?) So I asked her how a teenager dressed.  and the result is below.

And the best part was she told me that teenager's DO NOT wear clips in their hair....OUCH!  So we have everything together and I said one more thing about her outfit and she said "Do you know who I am?" and walked out the door.  Are you kidding me?  You are only 7 and 355 days old.  So I responded...."You better know who I am!"

So when we say it.....it's funny. When my almost 8 yr old says it....not so much.  But that is the life she leads.  She is so confident about herself.  She walks into a room and commands it.  We go places and people knows who she is.  The last Stingray game we went to we didn't take her.  I was walking on the concourse and saw 2 or 3 guys that weren't playing and they didn't even say 'hi' to me.  If Cora was there they would have not only said Hi to her but would have stood there and talked hockey with her.  It made me want to say...."Do you know who I am?"

But on another note.....in a couple weeks Cora will be making her First Communion.  I hope she will approach this day saying to God "Do you know who I am" and God's response  "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered." (luke 12:7)  And when she takes the Eucharist I hope she feels God asking her "Do you know who I am".

Another day in my life.....and Yes I Do know who I am....
